Obituary: Norman Calvert

Norman Calvert passed from his home to his heavenly home on Jan. 5, 2024.

He was born Nov. 7, 1936 to Ofel and Margrette (Speegle) Calvert in Cullman County. Norman served in the United States Air Force from 1955 – 1963. He worked many jobs to provide for his family. He was best known as a sweet potato farmer. He was a deacon and active member of Logan Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Denny and James Garren “Buddy” Calvert; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and many aunts and uncles and a nephew.

Survivors include: wife of 66 years, Janice Calvert; children: Margaret Sobie (Chuck), Phillip Calvert (Karen), Michelle Musmeci (Mike) and Kevin Calvert (Stephanie); brothers: Edwin Calvert, Frank Calvert (Virgie) and Greg Calvert (Kathy); Grandchildren: Meghan Farrow (Brian), Jennifer Puleo (Bryan), Rebekah Smith (Spencer), Jason Graves (Mallory), Stephanie Dye (Chris), Nathan Calvert (Katy) and Brody Calvert; Great grandchildren: Maleah, Maggie, Gabriel, and Nathaniel Farrow; Evan, Aiden, David and Isabella Puleo; Savannah, Micah, Samuel and Micayla Smith; Chandler, Mason and Maddie Graves; Austin Hasting; Star and Noah Dye; and Lindsey Calvert; great great granddaughter, Vivien Graves; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

The family will receive friends at Moss Service Funeral Home on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2024 from 11 a.m. until the Celebration of Norman’s life that will begin at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Bowman’s Chapel Cemetery.
