Obituary: Luther “Perry” Tucker

Mr. Luther “Perry” Tucker passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, Dec. 24, 2023. Mr. Tucker was a Cullman Native, Born Aug. 5, 1939, the youngest of three sons to James Luther and Jewel (Brock) Tucker. He was 84 Years old.

Mr. Tucker was married to his high school sweetheart, Alpharetta “Ralph” (Nix) Tucker for 63 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and two older brothers, John Leon Tucker and James Alva Tucker. He is survived by his wife and two sons, Perron Lee Tucker (Cortney and Joseph Luther Tucker (Lee Anne), as well as two grandsons Henry Ransom Tucker and Charles Perron Tucker.

Perry was a 1957 graduate of Cullman High school and studied business and finance at St. Bernard College in Cullman.

While in college, he worked with his grandfather, J.R. Tucker at Parker Bank, prior to working at the Cullman Co-Op. His banking career began with Birmingham Trust National Bank in the early 1970’s and continued to People’s Bank of Tupelo Mississippi, Southtrust and 1st Commercial Bank (Synovus) in Birmingham, from where he returned to Cullman in 1999. He retired from banking with Merchants Bank in Cullman and then began poultry and cattle farming which he did throughout his retirement.

From childhood he was a lifelong member of The Church of Christ, and while able, Perry attended 4th Street Church of Christ in Cullman.

Services for Mr. Tucker will be held on Friday, Dec. 29, 2023 at 2 p.m., the family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until time of service. Interment will follow at Cullman City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the American Heart Association.
