SOUTH VINEMONT, Ala. – The Town of South Vinemont held its third annual Christmas in the Park event on Saturday, Dec 9. A looming threat of severe weather kept the crowd sparse, although the lack of a large audience couldn’t dim the beauty of the event.

“The weather has kept some people away, but the ones that have shown up have had a great time,” said Mayor Radginal Dodson. “Every year it gets better, and this year was even better than last year.”

The main space of the Vinemont Community Center held tables filled with child-friendly crafts, DIY ornaments and flip-page coloring books; the nearby countertop was filled with urns of homemade hot cocoa and plates and platters of cookies of every variety. Outside in the community park and green space, bubble machines created the illusion of fluffy falling snow, enticing little children to shriek with glee.

The night’s main attraction was the Town’s inaugural Tinsel Trail, a collection of Christmas trees and displays honoring lost loved ones. Sponsors decorated trees to their tastes, honoring and remembering their families and friends. The sponsored trees line the Art Park walking trail; most of the displays coordinate with family names on the park’s memorial benches.

The night culminated in the lighting of the grand, 14-foot Christmas tree, positioned at the center of the park.

Vinemont Town Clerk Kayecea Sasser said the hard work and planning were all worth it. Looking up at the tree and around the park, she smiled, “We had a really good night. I’m glad everyone could come out and enjoy it with us.”
