Margie Blankenship, age 79, of Arley, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2023 at Princeton Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham.
She was born July 6, 1944 in Florence, Alabama. After working as a secretary to help put her husband through college at The University of Alabama, she poured her life into raising her children. She was a pure of heart woman, a loving wife, and the matriarch of her family. Margie was a long time member of Meek Baptist Church in Arley, and former member of Hillview Baptist Church in Forestdale. Her love of life and people was obvious and will be forever remembered by her friends and family.
The family will receive friends Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023 from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at Meek Baptist Church in Arley, where the Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Pastor Corey Cochran will officiate.
Margie is survived by her husband of 61 years, Gene Blankenship; daughter, Gina Leigh Blankenship Flowers and her husband Wesley; son, Timothy Allen Blankenship and his wife Donna; grandchildren, Will Flowers and his wife Julia, Hailey McCollum and her husband Ian, Hunter Allen Blankenship and his wife Itzel, Gage McHenry, and Rachel Flowers; great grandson, Emmett Allen Blankenship; and many well-loved nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lessie and Fred Simpson; and six brothers and sisters, Lawton Gillis, Granville Gillis, Lois Gillis Dague, Joe Gillis, Dean Gillis Darby, and Doyle Gillis.
