VINEMONT, Ala. — The Good Hope Raiders made the short trip over to Vinemont to take on the Eagles Tuesday night. Both the Lady Raiders and Raiders left with wins over Vinemont, 81-35, and 78-57 respectively.
Good Hope 81 – Vinemont 35 (Varsity Girls)
It was a dominant first quarter for Good Hope senior Ivey Maddox, as she collected 11 points. The Raider defense held Vinemont to just two made baskets for the whole period, and they held a 15-5 lead after one. The second quarter saw Ava McSwain go off, getting 14 points, and Maddox added eight more points in the period. Good Hope’s defense continued to give the Lady Eagles fits, only allowing a three by Carley Stephens. The Lady Raiders took a commanding 43-8 lead into the half.
The second half was more of the same for Good Hope. Five different Good Hope players scored in the third period, as they took a 75-22 lead into the final period. The fourth quarter was run under a hot clock, and Good Hope (5-1) was able to cruise to an 81-35 win over Vinemont (3-2).
Maddox led all scorers with a game-high 33 points. McSwain added 18 points. Heather Tetro ended up with 14 points, while Jolee McHan and Bailey Tetro (12 assists) each collected six points. For Vinemont, Stephens led the way with 13 points, while Whitney Quick and Reagan Robinson each finished with six points.
Good Hope 78 – Vinemont 57 (Varsity Boys)
The first quarter was a dominating one for Good Hope. K’mal Bell finished with 11 points, Tyler Cone put in nine points, and Jacob Haynes added eight points in the period. Isiah Jones finished with eight points in the quarter for Vinemont, but the Raiders ended up taking a 34-12 lead into the second period. Six different players found the scoring column for the Raiders in the quarter. Jones and Kaden Graham each put in eight points for the Eagles in the second period, but Good Hope took a 51-30 lead into the locker room.
The scoring slowed down a little bit in the second half, but Good Hope still held a 64-43 lead after three. The Raiders would go on to collect a 78-57 win over the Eagles on the road.
Bell led the way for Good Hope (4-2) with 20 points. Cone added 16 points. Haynes ended up with 13 points, and Weston Hancock collected 10 points in the contest. For Vinemont (5-3), Jones led all scorers with 31 points. Graham added 11 points, and Josh Rhodes ended up with seven points.
Good Hope will head home to take on Jasper Thursday and Vinemont will travel to play J.B. Pennington Friday.
