CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman Christkindlmarkt, the South’s largest and most authentic German-inspired Christmas market, has made its grand debut. The opening ceremony, set against the backdrop of the magnificent Weihnachtspyramide (Christmas pyramid) – the tallest in the United States – signaled the beginning of a festive tradition in the heart of Alabama.
Cullman Mayor Woody Jacobs shared his excitement, saying, “The unveiling of the Cullman Christkindlmarkt is a dream realized, bringing the enchantment of a German Christmas market directly to our community. This market is more than a seasonal attraction; it is a deep dive into the heart of a long-standing German Christmas tradition.”
With over 40 vendors, the market promises an authentic Christkindlmarkt experience. Attractions include the Christmas pyramid, a colossal 40-foot tall Christmas tree, a beautifully restored antique carousel with a storied past from Boston Common Park and a vast outdoor ice rink.
Cullman Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism Executive Director Nathan Anderson spoke of the market’s allure for families. “KinderPlatz is where the magic of Christmas comes to life for our younger guests, offering a plethora of crafts, activities and the joyful opportunity to meet Santa and his festive entourage.”
Anderson continued, “Our commitment to visitor comfort shines through every detail, from the warmth of the schlupfwinkel nooks to the hospitality of our expansive warming tent and the charm of our garden Geo Domes. This year, we’re setting the scene for a holiday experience that could be captured in a Hallmark Christmas masterpiece.”
The Christkindlmarkt, proudly sponsored by the Visit Cullman Tourism Bureau and championed by the local business community, embodies the spirit of Christmas and community camaraderie.
The market will welcome visitors Thursday-Sunday through Dec. 23. For additional information, visit www.CullmanChristkindlmarkt.com.
