CULLMAN, Ala. – Heather Stewart and her consignment sale, Behind the Rack Consignment, had been offering deep discounts on high-quality secondhand children’s items in Arab for two years when other cities started reaching out and asking that sales be held in their areas; requests from Cullman County residents quickly followed suit.

November’s sale will be Stewart’s second in Cullman, but the first to be held at the Cullman County Fairgrounds. A larger space was a necessity for this go around, Stewart said. “This is our second sale in Cullman. The first one was at Stone Bridge Farms and we had the building overflowing during our back-to-school sale. So I instantly reached out to the fairgrounds and they were able to help.”

Stewart is a mother to three children and like other mothers, wanted to dress her children to her tastes, not necessarily her budget. As a family with a tight financial plan, Stewart saw consignment sales as a solid choice. Consigning outgrown items can generate income, while still allowing flexibility.

“With the way the economy is, everyone is looking for a great deal; a lot of the clothes that children wear get worn one or two times,” Stewart noted. “Consignment is a great way for a moms to make a second income and stay at home and still be able to clothe their children the way they love to dress them.”

Shopping and bargains begin Thursday, Nov. 16 at 4 p.m. for volunteer workers; 4:30 for consignors; 5 for teachers, school staff, nurses and first responders; and 5:30 for presale pass holders. The general public is invited to shop from 6-8.

On Friday, Nov. 17, hours will be 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and all items tagged with a red ticket will be 25% off from 3-5.

On Saturday, Nov. 18, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., red ticketed items will sold be at a 50% discount. The very last hour of the public sale holds some of the steepest discounts; during the Dollar Bill Dash, all remaining items will be $1 each from 3-4.

Admission to the sale is $1, benefiting Les Dames, a local women’s mentorship program.

Vendors will be on-site with their treats and goodies. Bare Bottoms Farm will have freeze-dried sweet treats, Carye Anne’s Baked Goods is bringing a delicious spread, Sutton-Rae is bringing accessories for the tiny fashionistas of the day and Tara Motte Cornelius will be representing First Federal Mortgage.

The Cullman County Fairground is located at 1501 Sportsman Lake Road NW in Cullman.
