Harpersville man arrested in fatal hit-and-run involving bicyclist

Ryan J. Jolly, 36, faces charges of manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident with death

HARPERSVILLE, Ala. — A Harpersville man was arrested Monday, Nov. 13, in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of a 19-year-old bicyclist in Cullman County, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Ryan J. Jolly, 36, faces charges of manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident with death, Senior Trooper Brandon Bailey announced. The arrest, made around 5:15 p.m. Monday, stems from an incident on Thursday evening, Nov. 9.

Dakota R. Lamons, 19, of Hanceville, was riding his bicycle when he was struck and fatally injured by a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado allegedly driven by Jolly. The crash occurred at approximately 6:46 p.m. on Nov. 9. Jolly is accused of fleeing the scene following the collision.

The case remains under investigation by ALEA’s Traffic Homicide Investigation Unit (THI). Officials have not released further details at this time.
