CULLMAN, Ala. – Childhaven receives donations throughout the year, but at only half capacity currently, some of those remain in storage. Since fall 2022, Childhaven has aimed to shrink its storage bill and maximize liquid funds to continue providing care for the girls it serves. To that end, Childhaven’s Benefit Yard Sale will be held Thursday and Friday, Nov. 2-3, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. each day. Childhaven is located at 1816 Childhaven Road.
“It’s a fundraiser to help with all the general programs we have at Childhaven,” said Director of Social Services Sherrie Sharp. “It’s just donations that come to us throughout the year; we have many local individuals that donate to us when they redecorate, or clean out their garage. We have gotten some really nice things. We invite our past residents to come and shop for free, and they’re welcome to have anything they may need.” Sharp quickly laughed and added, “Everyone else will have to pay, but very, very minimal prices. We mark it down so cheap!”
This will be Childhaven’s third benefit yard sale. Sharp said the yard sales are a great way to benefit the residents at Childhaven, and the community loves them. “We try to hold one yard sale in the fall and one in the spring, and it’s just the excess that accumulates. We want these items to benefit the girls, and this way, they are. We always have a great turnout from the community.”
Childhaven serves girls aged 14 to 21. It is a residential home that provides occupants with counseling, parenting classes and planning for pregnant and young mothers and even transitional living situations for young adults preparing to move out on their own.
