CHEROKEE, Ala. – The Meek Tigers were back on the road Friday night for a region matchup at Cherokee and thanks in large part to a three-touchdown performance from running back Cam Deaver, they were able to leave Cherokee with a 26-12 win.

The Indians returned the game’s opening kick off all the way to the house for a touchdown to go up 6-0 right out of the gate but on their first offensive possession, the Tiger defense forced a safety and trimmed the lead to 6-2. Deaver punched one into the end zone from 2 yards out later in the first to give Meek the lead and Evan McCay found Jarrett Benson in the end zone for the two-point conversion to make it a 10-6 game.

The Tigers went into the locker room leading 10-6 at the half but were able to add to their lead early in the third quarter. A 12-yard touchdown run, and a two-point conversion run by Deaver put Meek in front 18-6 and later in the period, Deaver’s third touchdown of the night, followed by a two-point pass from McCay to Braxton Dickerson, made it a 26-6 game.

Cherokee scored on a 50-yard run early in the fourth to cut the lead to 26-12 but couldn’t get any closer than that and the Tigers returned home with a 26-12 win over the Indians.

Meek improves to 6-3 with the win and will wrap up the regular season at home against Shoals Christian next week.
