CLEVELAND, Ala. – The Holly Pond Broncos were back on the road Friday night for their final regional matchup of the season at Cleveland and the Broncos were able to stop the Panthers on the final play of the game to secure a 34-26 win.

Holly Pond struck first to take a 6-0 lead midway through the opening period, but Cleveland answered with a tying score just before the end of the first quarter to make it 6-6. The Panthers pulled ahead 12-6 early in the second quarter but the Broncos responded with another score and a two-point conversion to take a 14-12 lead. Both teams exchanged touchdowns in the final few minutes of the second and went into the locker room at halftime with the game tied at 20.

After a scoreless third quarter, Cleveland scored early in the fourth to move back in front 26-20 but it was all Broncos after that. Holly Pond found the end zone and got the two-point conversion to pull ahead 28-26 with just over seven minutes to play and later in the fourth, another Broncos touchdown put Holly Pond in front 34-26. The Panthers were preparing to throw a ball into the end zone as the final seconds of the game ticked away but a sack by the Broncos cut the opportunity short and secured a 34-26 win for Holly Pond.

The Broncos improve to 2-7 with the win and they’ll wrap up the regular season with a rivalry game at Vinemont next week.
