FULTONDALE, Ala. – Hanceville made the trip to Fultondale for a regional matchup against the Wildcats Thursday night and the score was knotted at 6 early in the second quarter but unfortunately for the traveling Bulldogs, the Wildcats dominated the rest of the way and defeated Hanceville 43-14.
The Bulldogs forced Fultondale to turn the ball over on downs on its opening possession and Hanceville quarterback Hunter Black connected with Drake Bentley for a 40-yard gain to get the Bulldogs in scoring range. A few plays later, Dylan Lazaro knocked a 29-yard field goal through the uprights to put Hanceville in front 3-0. The Wildcats were able to answer with a touchdown before the end of the first and went into the second leading the Bulldogs 6-3.
Early in the second quarter, Marquies Leeth took a screen pass 40 yards down inside Fultondale territory, setting up a 35-yard Lazaro field goal that tied the game at 6. However, the Wildcats responded later in the second, finding the end zone once again to take a 14-6 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Fultondale put two more touchdowns on the board in the third quarter to extend its lead to 28-6 at the start of the fourth. Down 35-6 midway through the fourth, L.J. Smith punched one into the end zone from 2 yards out for a touchdown and followed it up a with successful two-point conversion run to make it a 35-14 game. Unfortunately, those were the last points the Bulldogs could get on the board and the Wildcats went on to win it 43-14.
Hanceville falls to 3-6 with the loss and will be back on the road next week to wrap up the regular season at East Lawrence.
