CULLMAN, Ala. — With its roots deeply planted in providing core primary care services, Cullman Primary Care, PC (CPC) has seen rapid expansion over the past few years. However, recent challenges have prompted the medical group to reassess and consolidate its range of specialties.
“Cullman Primary Care, PC started with a foundation of core primary care physicians and over the last several years added multiple specialty offices to assist with local continuity of care,” said John Reynolds, CEO. While the group’s growth was indeed impressive, it was not without its challenges. A combination of decreased reimbursements from insurance plans, heightened medical supply costs and rapid expansion resulted in the upcoming consolidation.
Starting Oct. 31, certain specialty offices including Rheumatology, Allergy and Immunology, Psychiatry and General Surgery/Wound Care will no longer operate under the CPC umbrella. “Most of these providers are remaining in our community, and our primary care physicians will continue to support them with patient referrals,” Reynolds added.
Patients who frequent these specialty facilities are urged to ensure they have a transition in place. “If a patient has not received communication on their care continuation, needs information on where their specialist has relocated, or requires medical records information, they can contact the CPC Care Line at 256-736-CARE,” Reynolds emphasized.
Regarding the short notice of these changes, CPC clarified that the date aligns with the end of its fiscal year. Yet, providers are committed to ensuring a smooth transition for patients well into mid-November.
CPC will continue to serve the community, having consolidated its family practice physicians to its 408 Clark Street location. Furthermore, it will continue to provide in-patient services at Cullman Regional Medical Center, Urgent Care services at 1406 Wall Street and Diagnostic testing at 501 Clark Street.
Several physicians, including Dr. Kurt Blake (Rheumatology) and Dr. Joseph Forester (Allergy and Immunology), will be relocating to 1948 Alabama Highway 157, POB 1, Suite 450. Dr. Brad Moody (General Surgery) will set up his practice at Horizon Surgical, P.C. Unfortunately, CPC’s psychiatrists, including Dr. Santosh Pillai, Dr. Mary K. Thrower and Dr. Casey Lowrey, have not yet established new practice locations and are currently referring patients to other local programs.
CPC consolidated its family practice physicians to its 408 Clark Street location, but still provides inpatient services at Cullman Regional Medical Center, Urgent Care services at 1406 Wall Street and Diagnostic testing at 501 Clark Street.
