CULLMAN, Ala. – Amid a plethora of fall and Halloween activities slated for next week, Render Aid Alabama is joining in on the fall fun and offering support at the same time by hosting its inaugural Boo Festival on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023. Attendees can expect all the fun of a typical fall festival, while also learning more about domestic violence prevention and awareness.

The lineup is stacked with a host of local speakers, advocates and domestic violence survivors. Food trucks, inflatables for kids, games and more will be available to keep kids at ease while adults visit the informational booths.

“Boo Festival is important to us as we recently lost a valuable member of the community to domestic violence,” said Candie Cummings of Render Aid Alabama. Cummings shared that while this spooky and festive time of year can be a fright for some, far creepier and more insidious than ultra-realistic Halloween decor is the issue of domestic violence, and often, those in relationships don’t know what that looks like.

“We want to educate people on what a healthy relationship looks like. Sometimes we are the problem and don’t realize it,” said Cummings.

Cummings also made sure to thank her sponsors and board members. Throwing an event this large requires dedication, skill and perseverance, especially for a newer agency on the humanitarian scene in Cullman.

“It’s a blessing to be able to host this event,” beamed Cummings. “We’re so thankful for all those who’ve helped make this happen. Without our volunteers, sponsors and board members we would be still dreaming about making an event like this happen.”

Boo Festival will be hosted Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Cullman County Agricultural Trade Center located along U.S. Highway 31 North in Vinemont. Doors will open at 11 a.m., with the festival winding down by 7 p.m.
