ATHENS, Ala. – After earning a hard-fought, 21-14 win at Ardmore last week, the West Point Warriors were back on the road Friday night for a regional game against East Limestone. Unfortunately for the Warriors, the Indians were able to pull ahead and take a lead in the final two minutes of the game and West Point wasn’t able to answer in the time remaining, allowing East Limestone to hold and win it 24-17.
A field goal gave East Limestone an early, 3-0 lead over the Warriors but Omar Segundo answered with a field goal of his own late in the first quarter to tie the game at 3 going into the second. Ollie Howell punched one into the end zone with just under five minutes remaining in the second quarter to give West Point a 10-3 lead, but the Indians were able to find the end zone in the final 30 seconds of the half to tie things up at 10 going into the halftime break.
Howell’s second touchdown of the night came midway through the third quarter and gave the Warriors a 17-10 lead going into the fourth. However, the Indians were able to match that score with a touchdown of their own midway through the fourth quarter to tie the game at 17 and with 1:38 left on the clock, East Limestone found the end zone again to take its first lead since the first quarter at 24-17. West Point wasn’t able to answer the Indians touchdown in the final 90 seconds and East Limestone held on to defeat the Warriors 24-17.
West Point falls to 5-4 with the loss and the Warriors will wrap up the regular season at home against Brewer next week.
