ARLEY, Ala. – After shutting out Shoals Chrisian on the road last week, Meek returned home Friday night to host Vina and after building a 40-0 lead in the first half, the Tigers cruised to a 46-8 win in the second half.
A 54-yard touchdown pass from Evan McCay to Ryan Ewing gave the Tigers an 8-0 lead early in the opening period and a 65-yard touchdown run by Cameron Deaver stretched the lead to 16-0. McCay got loose for a 45-yard touchdown run to make it a 24-0 game early in the second quarter and after extending the lead to 32-0 later in the period, McCay connected with Ewing for a 15-yard touchdown to put Meek in front 40-0 at the halftime break.
Both teams agreed to shortened quarters in the second half. An 8-yard touchdown run by Brady Baxter gave the Tigers a 46-0 lead in the third quarter and Vina was able to score and put eight points on the board later in the fourth but those were the only points scored in the second half and Meek held on to win it 46-8.
The Tigers improve to 5-3 with the win and they’ll be back on the road next week for a regional battle at Cherokee.
