FULTONDALE, Ala. – After collecting a convincing, 41-13 win over Ashville last week, the Good Hope Raiders were on the road Friday night for a regional battle at Fultondale. The Raiders had some successful moving the ball through the air against the Wildcats, but turnovers cut too many drives short, and they were unable to keep pace with Fultondale, falling on the road 35-7.
Fultondale put together a methodical opening drive to start the game and finished it off in the end zone to take an early, 7-0 lead over the Raiders. The Wildcats added to their lead with a 1-yard touchdown run on their next possession, but Good Hope blocked the ensuing extra point to make it a 13-0 game late in the first quarter. The Raiders stuffed Fultondale on fourth and short early in the second quarter to take over near midfield and just a few plays later, quarterback Colten Whatley found Tyler Cone streaking down the field for a 55-yard touchdown to cut the lead to 13-7 with six minutes to play in the first half.
Good Hope recovered a Wildcats fumble on their next drive and moved the chains with a big pass from Whatley to Tucker Malin, but an interception cut the Raider possession short, and Fultondale added one more touchdown late in the second quarter to take a 21-7 lead into the locker room at halftime.
A Weston Hancock interception cut the Wildcats’ first drive of the third quarter short, and the Raiders continued to make some plays through the air in the second half, but Fultondale was able to outscore Good Hope 14-0 in the fourth quarter to pull away and collect a 35-7 win.
The Raiders fall to 3-6 with the loss and they’ll finish up the regular season on the road against Oneonta next week.
