Funeral services for Shirley Ann Pitts, of Hanceville, Alabama will be 12 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, 2023 at Fairview West Baptist Church in Hanceville. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. Claude Bennett, Gene Shelton, and Jack Welch will be conducting the services.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023 at Hanceville Funeral Home. Mrs. Pitts will also lie-in-repose at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m.
Mrs. Pitts was born on Jan. 14, 1945, in Cullman. She passed away at the age of 78 on Oct. 16, 2023, at Cullman Regional Medical Center in Cullman. Shirley was a graduate of Hanceville High School. Shortly after graduating she would meet and eventually marry the love of her life, Doug. She spent several years working at various places but devoted most of her time at home raising her beloved children.
Shirley was strong in her faith and always had time to help someone; whether it be advice or just to have someone to talk to. Her personality was bright, and her love was contagious. She will be deeply missed and remain forever in the hearts of those she loved.
Survivors include her husband, Douglas Pitts; children, Jeff Pitts, Keith Pitts, and Nancy Johnson (Felix); grandchildren, Maegan Wright (Adam), Halee Holloway (Dakota), Promise Pitts, Courtney Pitts, Jordan Pitts (Maddie White), Savannah Johnson, Alexis Johnson, and Logan Johnson; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Ralph Brown; sisters-in-law, Charlotte Brown and Peggy Kyle (Jack); brother-in-law, Danny Pitts; and a host of many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Mrs. Pitts was preceded in death by her father, R.J. Brown; mother, Frances Brown-Baker; stepfather, Ott Baker; and brother, Roger Brown.
