ARDMORE, Ala. – The West Point Warriors made the trip the state line for a regional matchup against Ardmore and after starting the final frame tied at 14, the Warriors were able to pull ahead for good in the fourth and return home with a 21-14 win.
The Warriors got on the board early in the opening period when Garit Roberson took a direct snap and punched it into the end zone for the first score of the night. Omar Segundo’s extra point attempt split the uprights and gave West Point a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. The Warriors maintained that lead going into the second quarter, but Ardmore was able to answer the West Point touchdown later in the period, knotting things up at 7 going into the halftime break.
Ardmore pulled ahead with another score midway through the third to take a 14-7 lead, but the Warriors responded in the final minute of the period when JD Cochran ran one into the end zone from to tie the game at 14 going into the fourth.
Roberson’s second touchdown of the night gave West Point a 21-7 lead with just under nine minutes remaining in the game and the Warriors defense kept Ardmore off the board the rest of the way to secure a 21-14, region win for West Point.
The Warriors improve to 4-4 with the win and they’ll be back on the road next week for another regional matchup at East Limestone.
