GOOD HOPE, Ala. – It was Senior Night at Good Hope Tuesday night and the Lady Raiders celebrated with a quad match against Cordova, Corner and Fairview. Fairview swept their first two matches with Corner and Cordova, while Good Hope split its first matches. The Lady Raiders concluded the night by sweeping the Lady Aggies 2-0.
Good Hope 2 – Cordova 0 (Game One)
Good Hope jumped out to a quick 5-1 lead behind a point by Ivey Maddox and aces from Emma Bailey and Charly Johnson. A point and an ace from Maddox, followed by a point by Jolee McHan, helped the Lady Raiders widen their lead to 11-3. A Makenzie Cruce ace made it 14-4, then later on, kills by McHan and Johnson, followed by an ace from Cameron Koch made it 17-5. Maddox got four kills in the final run for Good Hope as they went on to a 25-8 win in the first set.
Cordova got off to a 3-1 lead in the second set, but the Lady Raiders scored the next 10 points, which included a pair of aces from Carley Adams, and a trio of kills and a point by Maddox, as that gave them an 11-3 lead. Kills by Haley Lay and Johnson, followed by a point by Chloe Eisner and an ace from Koch, widened their lead to 18-6. A point by Lay made it 21-7, and Maddox finished off the sweep of the Lady Blue Devils with a kill, as Good Hope collected a 25-11 win in the second set.
Fairview 2 – Corner 0 (Game Two)
It was a close first set between both teams. Corner held a slim 4-2 lead, but four straight points by Fairview gave them a 6-4 lead. The Lady Aggies would later push their lead to 11-6, but a big run by the Lady Yellow Jackets gave them a 13-12 lead. Fairview ended up taking a 20-18 lead late in the set, but Corner came back to tie it up at 21. The Lady Aggies finished the set strong, scoring the final four points, to take the first set, 25-21.
Corner held a slim 5-3 lead early in the second set, but a 5-0 run by Fairview gave them an 8-5 lead. The Lady Yellow Jackets went on a run of their own to take a 9-8 lead. The Lady Aggies got the lead right back at 12-10 and later made it a 15-12 lead. Fairview pushed their lead to 21-17, but once again, Corner rallied back to tie things up at 23. Both teams would go back and forth for a few minutes, trading points, then Fairview got the final two points, including the game-winning ace, as they ended up taking the second set, 29-27, collecting a sweep in the process.
Corner 2 – Good Hope 0 (Game Three)
It was close early on between both teams. Good Hope held a slim 6-4 lead, but a big 8-0 run by Corner gave them a 12-6 lead. A point by Mattie Wix helped jump start a 6-0 Lady Raider run, and McHan finished it off with a point of her own, as it was now tied at 12. Both teams traded runs to keep it tied up at 15. A late run by the Lady Yellow Jackets gave them a 23-17 lead. A point by Maddox cut it to 23-18, but Corner collected the final two points as they ended up winning the first set, 25-18.
Good Hope jumped out to a quick 4-1 lead in the second set, but once again, Corner went on a big run to take an 8-4 lead. They later pushed it to 12-7, but the Lady Raiders went on a run of their own, as points by McHan and Johnson, a kill by Johnson, and an ace from Cruce, tied things up at 13. Corner ended up taking an 18-15 lead late in the set, but a point by Molly Benefield cut it to 19-17. The Lady Yellow Jackets widened their lead to 23-18, and would end up finishing off their sweep of Good Hope, 25-18, and 25-19.
Fairview 2 – Cordova 0 (Game Four)
Fairview scored the first three points of the first set to take an early 3-0 lead, but a little run by Cordova cut it to 6-4. The Lady Aggies scored the next seven points to help widen their lead to 13-4, but the Lady Blue Devils answered right back with a 5-1 run to make it a 14-9 game. Fairview pushed their lead to 16-9, but Cordova later cut it to 18-13. The Lady Aggies dominated the rest of the set after that, scoring seven of the final eight points, to take the first set, 25-14.
It was close early in the second set, as Cordova held a 4-2 lead, but Fairview tied things up at five. The Lady Aggies quickly broke the tie with four straight points to take a 9-5 lead. The Lady Blue Devils, though, went on a run of their own, as they made it an 11-10 game. Fairview ended up taking over after that, going on a 14-2 run to end the set, as they swept Cordova, 25-14, and 25-12.
Good Hope 2 – Fairview 0 (Game Five)
Good Hope couldn’t have asked for a better start to the first set against Fairview. Aces from Bailey and Johnson, and a kill by Benefield, helped the Lady Raiders jump out to a quick 8-1 lead. The Lady Aggies went on a big run to cut it to 9-6, but points by Benefield and Johnson made it a 13-7 game. An ace from Koch pushed Good Hope’s lead to 15-8, but a kill by Laci Segrest trimmed Fairview’s deficit to six at 17-11. The Lady Raiders increased their lead to 20-12 late in the set, and later made it 22-14 on an ace from Cruce. The Lady Aggies, though, made things interesting in the end, going on a 5-1 run, which included a point by Peyton Salazar, and a kill by Jacie Blackwood, to cut it to 23-19. Kills by Ava Calvarese and Salazar, plus an ace from Reagan Dunkin, made it a 24-22 game. A block point by Johnson helped seal the 25-22 win for Good Hope in the first set.
Kills by Salazar and Kailyn Redding helped Fairview jump out to a 4-1 lead in the second set. Good Hope would answer in a big way, getting points from Carley Adams, Maddox, Benefield, and McHan, plus an ace from Maddox, as that gave them a 9-5 lead. An ace from Koch pushed the Lady Raider lead to 13-7, but an ace from Abby McDonald helped the Lady Aggies trim the deficit to three at 15-12. A pair of kills from Maddox pushed the Good Hope lead to 17-12, but four straight points by the Lady Aggies, including a kill by Blackwood, made it a 17-16 game. An ace from Maddox widened the Lady Raiders’ lead to 20-16, but points by Karlie English and Blackwood cut it to 21-19. A point by McHan made it a 24-19 game, but an ace from Blackwood made it a 24-21 game. Good Hope, though, was able to get the final point of the set to finish off their sweep of the Lady Aggies, 25-22, and 25-21.
Good Hope will start getting ready for its area tournament next week, while Fairview will head back home to take on Cold Springs, Oneonta and Brindlee Mountain in a quad match on Thursday.
