Cullman county man arrested following shooting incident over livestock

CULLMAN CO., Ala. — A Cullman County man was arrested after allegedly firing shots at individuals attempting to corral livestock near Cullman Camp Ground on Sept. 27, 2023.

Deputies from the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) responded to the scene of the reported shooting and located both witnesses and the victim, who suffered superficial wounds.

Earlier that evening, the victim and others were asked by a family member to corral livestock that belonged to 32-year-old James William Zigenfus of Cullman. During the attempt to return the animals to their pasture, Zigenfus allegedly exited his residence and fired several shots in the direction of the victim.

Zigenfus was arrested on the scene and has been charged with aggravated assault with a firearm.
