Hanceville hosts Kids’ Night Out

HANCEVILLE, Ala. – Hanceville hosted one final community event Thursday evening, Sept. 21, before the arrival of fall festivals and trunk or treating: the highly anticipated, annual Kids’ Night Out, an event where kids can be kids while getting to know first responders in the community.

At CW Day Park, kids got to meet members of the Hanceville Police Department, Hanceville Fire Department, EMS personnel and Cullman County Emergency Management Agency. Members of the community spent the evening indulging in kid-friendly fare like hotdogs and ice cream, jumped to their hearts’ content in bounce houses, coasted along on train rides and even mustered up the courage to take on the mechanical bull. The real treat of the evening was the fireworks show, capping off the night with one last adrenaline rush – just in time for bed!

An event of this scope doesn’t just come together; several local businesses and individuals stepped up to sponsor aspects of the celebration, said Police Chief Joshua Howell. He said that while the police department usually gets all the credit, it’s an all-around effort.

“This isn’t about me or the police department. It is about us – our community as a whole – and showing the love we have for our children,” said Howell.

While several came together to make the event a success for the youngest residents of Hanceville, special accolades were given to Michelle Allen Scott for her outstanding hard work and unwavering dedication to making the event a memorable experience.

“Michelle’s commitment to our community is truly commendable, and her efforts have not gone unnoticed!” exclaimed Howell.

Howell mentioned that while Kids’ Night Out is multifaceted, one of its core objectives is to give kids an authentically positive view of first responders, shaping the future of how residents at large view law enforcement, making the ground fertile for understanding and dialog.

“Let us continue to nurture the spirit of unity, compassion and dedication that makes our community special,” stated Howell. “I am excited to see what the future holds for our town and the incredible events that await our children.”
