FAIRVIEW, Ala. – Fairview High School recently welcomed its new principal, Dr. Johnny Whaley, to the community. Whaley is from Cullman and is a Cold Springs High School graduate.

Whaley brings a wealth of experience to his role as principal, with an impressive 22-year career in education. “I started out as a classroom teacher, teaching social science at the middle and high school levels for five years,” he shared. Whaley was also a guidance counselor for 10 years, primarily at Vinemont High School, and later served as the principal of Vinemont Middle School.

Reflecting on his extensive teaching background, Whaley expressed his passion for working directly with students in the classroom, saying, “I do miss teaching. I miss being in the classroom and interacting with kids in that setting. But I love my position as principal, and it allows me to use my counseling background in an administrative capacity. It provides me with a unique perspective, and I believe it helps me see things from a different angle. It’s a role that allows me to serve our students and staff in various ways.”

Regarding his new position at Fairview High School, Whaley said he couldn’t be more pleased. “I love it here,” he stated. “It’s a great community with wonderful kids and an excellent staff. Our staff is top-notch, and I really love it. I had been looking for an opportunity to get back to high school after spending time in middle school administration. When they talked to me about this position, I couldn’t say no. The Fairview community is special, and I wanted to be a part of it.”

Whaley also discussed his plans for the future of Fairview High School. “We want to excel academically and athletically and continue our success,” he shared. “We have an outstanding staff, and I believe we can achieve great things here.”
