ONEONTA, Ala. – The Hanceville Bulldogs hit the road Friday night to open up region play at Oneonta but unfortunately, after taking an early lead, the Bulldogs couldn’t keep pace with the Redskins for four quarters and they ended up falling to Oneonta 43-24.
Hanceville was able to move the ball well on its opening drive, working its way down inside Oneonta’s 5-yard line but the Bulldogs were held out of the end zone and settled for a 27-yard field goal by Dylan Lazaro, giving them a 3-0 lead early in the first. Hanceville maintained a 3-0 lead going into the second quarter, but the Redskins were able to punch one into the end zone early in the second to take a 6-3 lead.
Oneonta added another touchdown with about four minutes remaining in the first half to stretch the lead to 12-3 and the Redskins tacked on another score in the final moments of the second quarter to take a 19-3 lead over the Bulldogs into the halftime break.
Oneonta extended its lead to 26-3 early in the third quarter but Hanceville responded with a rushing touchdown by Hunter Black that made it a 26-10 game with just under nine minutes remaining in the period. Black connected with Marquies Leeth on a 57-yard touchdown pass later in the third to trim the lead to 26-17 but by the start of the fourth quarter, the Redskins were on top 40-17.
Black found J.T. Davis in the end zone for an 11-yard touchdown with just over three minutes to play to make it a 43-24 game, but the Bulldogs couldn’t chip away any more than that and Oneonta held on to win it 43-24.
Hanceville will return home next to week host a regional game against Ashville.
