CULLMAN, Ala. – Any parent who strives to keep up with trends and ever-growing little bodies has struggled with pricing and cost-per-wear of quality children’s clothes. And probably experienced the stress of the beautiful smocked and embroidered set you shilled out major dollars for being too small by the time the special event you bought it in mind for rolls around. While a few local brick-and-mortar consignment boutiques like Bubblegum and Blue Jeans or Better Than Before have become a mainstay of thrifty moms in the area, and several children’s consignment sales have stopped through Cullman, it will now have a consistent seasonal sale thanks to local mom Megan Seckfort.
Cowlicks and Pigtails aims to bridge the gap of shopping sustainably and frugally while staying trendy and on-season for all the special events in children’s lives. And, with the holiday season right around the corner, it’s not a moment too soon.
Seckfort shared that after years of driving out of town for large-scale consignment sales with her sister, she finally got the motivation to bring one to Cullman.
“I thought, ‘Why not have one available to local moms like us, and more convenient?’“ she posed, quipping that, especially for moms of multiple children, dressing in style can get very pricey. And, with boutique prices going up and up, and children growing every moment you look away, it seems a no-brainer to shop secondhand.
“For those like myself especially, that have three kids, it’s just not in the budget to buy brand new of upscale brands for every child to wear on big occasions and important holidays!” she said.
Seckfort noted the benefits of consignment, sharing that some busy parents simply don’t have time to post their children’s outgrown garments online individually and risk a buyer not following through, or the comfort to take a loss on the investment of those items through a common yard sale.
“I feel like having Cowlicks and Pigtails will be a convenient seasonal closet cleanout for all of us, with minimal hassle!” Seckfort exclaimed.
Seckfort noted that with a streamlined consignment process, it’s a win-win for both those consigning and those shopping; consignors get to set their own prices with a convenient online tagging system, and parents get to refresh their children’s wardrobes for the coming holiday season at a steal.
This season’s sale will be held from Wednesday, Sept. 13, to Saturday, Sept.16. The sale will be hosted at The Venue at Cotton Creek, located at 417 Third Ave. SW in Cullman.
