VINEMONT, Ala. — Good Hope made the short trip over to Vinemont to take on the Eagles in Tuesday night and it was all Raiders from the start. Good Hope scored on all but one drive in the first half and ended up rolling past Vinemont 56-8.
Vinemont quickly went three-and-out on its opening possession, and Good Hope started their first drive at midfield. Ryker Hancock picked up a gain of 23 yards on the first play to put the ball at the 27, then Web Buchanan found Caleb Boles for 16 more, and that put them at the 11. Cooper Johnson touched the ball on the final two plays, including a five-yard touchdown run, to give the Raiders a 6-0 lead. Eli Drake added the two-point conversion to make it 8-0. Vinemont’s drive ended on the second play as Memphis Johnson picked off a Caleb Speegle pass and the Raiders started its next drive on the 44.
A pair of quick penalties quickly put Good Hope behind the sticks, but on third-and-12 from the 39, Buchanan found Chase Boles for 31 yards and a first down. Another Hancock run gave them another first down, but later on in the drive, Buchanan’s pass got picked off by Max Jones. Vinemont, though, gave the ball right back to Good Hope as Eli Drake intercepted a pass at the 26. On just the second play of the series, Cooper Johnson broke several tackles on his way to a 15-yard score to make it 16-0. Jobe Pruett recovered the kickoff for the Raiders, and Buchanan found the end zone on the very first play as he made some nice juke moves on his way to a 47-yard touchdown to make it 24-0.
After recovering another kickoff, big runs by Hancock and Memphis Johnson put the ball at the 11, and later on in the drive, Memphis Johnson found Tucker Screws for an eight-yard run as that pushed their lead to 32-0. Vinemont quickly went three-and-out on its next series, and on the first play, Buchanan found Screws for a 20-yard score to make it 40-0 at the half.
Good Hope scored two more times in the second half as Memphis Johnson scored on a 47-yard run and Colt Green went 17 yards for his touchdown. Vinemont got on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter as Karson Arbet scored on a 19-yard run to put the final score at 56-8.
Memphis Johnson rushed for 63 yards and a touchdown and added the eight-yard touchdown pass as well for Good Hope. Green finished with 50 yards rushing and a touchdown. Buchanan threw for 47 and a score and added 47 more on the ground and another score. Cooper Johnson added 32 more on the ground and a pair of touchdowns. Pruett recovered a pair of fumbles, Cooper Johnson recovered one as well, and Eli Drake and Memphis Johnson each picked off a pass for the Raiders.
For Vinemont, Arbet finished with 63 yards rushing and a touchdown, while Jones added an interception for the Eagles.
