ADDISON, Ala. – Addison made the long journey to Vina, Alabama for a region matchup with Vina and the Bulldogs returned home with a convincing, 50-0 victory over the Red Devils.

Addison was hoping to come back from a tough county loss in the opening week and the schedule makers couldn’t have done them a better favor than scheduling the game but heavily undermanned Red Devil team. Addison kicked to Vina and three plays later, with zero yards, the Devils punted to Addison. It didn’t take Addison long as Braden Luker took the first two carries of the game and went 14 and 21 yards to give Addison a first and ten at the Devil 12-yard line. Jed Wilkins ran it in on the next play to give Addison the early 6-0 lead. Wilkins then ran in the two-point conversion for the 8-0 lead with 9:13 to go in the first quarter.

Addison’s Tanner Lawrence intercepted a Devil pass and returned it to the Devil 35-yard line. Wilkins then hit young Elijah Roberts for 30 yards on first down as Roberts got the ball down to the Devil 5-yard line. Two plays later Jacob Mauldin crossed the goal line with Addison’s second touchdown of the night. Wilkins again ran in the two-point conversion to give Addison the 16-0 lead with 5:43 left in the first.

Addison’s defense forced a Vina punt, giving the Dawgs the ball at their own 42-yard line. On third and eleven, Wilkins ran about 120 yards to get 59 yards and the touchdown as Addison increased their lead to 22-0. Wilkins crisscrossed the field at least twice during the run.  Jordan Hubbert ran in the two-point play and Addison led 24-0 with 2:06 to go in the first quarter.

Vina punted again and Wilkins returned the punt 73 yards for the touchdown on the last play of the first quarter but unfortunately, an unnecessary penalty near the endzone brought the touchdown off the board and gave Addison the ball at the Vina 25-yard line. It only took the Dawgs one play to get the touchdown back as Luker ran untouched through the middle of the Red Devil line to go 25 yards for the score. The extra point was missed so with 11:53 to go in the second quarter, Addison had stretched their lead to 30-0.

The Red Devils wouldn’t lay down without a fight and they then had one of their best drives of the night. Vina took over at their own 30 and moved down to the Dawg 31. Addison was able to hold Vina on a fourth and 5 play to take over at their own 31 with 6:13 to go in the half. After a penalty had Addison facing a first and fifteen from their 26-yard line, Wilkins found Jake McLamb on a quick out and Mclamb dodged and dipped his way 74 yards for the touchdown. At this point, the smallest Bulldog came onto the field to try the extra point. Sauli Martin came on and in possibly his first ever football game, kicked the extra point. Addison’s lead was extended to 37-0 with only 5:57 to go in the first half. That is how the first half ended with Addison dominating the Devils.

It was at this point that the Addison starters’ night was done, the young’ins finished out the night. Addison took the second half kickoff and starting at the Red Devil 43-yard line picked up with their teammates left off. Three plays later, Seth Hammack, scampered his way 38 yards for the touchdown. Martin kicked another extra point and Addison led 44-0 with 10:14 to go.

On the very next Vina offensive play, Bulldog defensive player Major Snoddy recovered a Devil fumble at the Devil 35-yard line. Addison’s Hammack then took the ball 35 yards for his second touchdown of the night. Wasn’t a bad night for young Mr. Hammack as he scored on two of his first three carries of the game. The extra point was no good and Addison led 50-0.

The remainder of the game was Addison’s younger players getting some valuable varsity experience and actually winning the second half, 13-0, against the Devils. It got a little sloppy for both teams as on three consecutive plays there were three turnovers.

Addison was able to hold on for a 50-0 victory that wasn’t as close as the score indicates. Vina was vastly overmatched tonight but they never quit but were just not up to the task on this evening.

Addison moves to 1-1 (1-0 region) on the season and hosts Cherokee next Friday. Vina falls to 0-1 (0-1 region) and is off next week.
