ARAB, Ala. – After handling Albertville in week one, the Arabian Knights returned home Friday night to host Brewer in week two and after a tight first half, the Knights were able to take more control in the second half and pull away with a 28-13 win.
Both teams exchanged punts on their opening possessions, but Brewer capped off its second drive with a touchdown and jumped out to a 7-0 lead over the Knights with just a few seconds remaining in the first quarter. Arab responded early in the second with a 4-yard touchdown run by Logan Alldredge and Aiden Wooten’s extra point tied the game at 7 with 7:35 to play in the first half.
The Patriots put together another scoring drive to move back in front but missed the extra point, making it a 13-7 game with just over three minutes to play in the second quarter. However, Knights quarterback Drew Puccio answered right back with a long touchdown run down the sideline to tie things up at 13 and Wooten’s extra point put Arab on top 14-13 late in the first half. Brewer threatened to score again right before the break, but the Knights held the Patriots out of the end zone and went to the locker room holding a 1-point lead at halftime.
With just a few minutes gone in the third, Arab tacked on another touchdown to stretch its lead to 21-13 but an interception later in the period gave the ball back to the Patriots with an opportunity to score. The Knights held up defensively and kept Brewer off the board to maintain an 8-point advantage going into the fourth quarter.
Arab continued to make things difficult for the Patriots offense and with just under five minutes to play, Alldredge punched another one into the end zone to give the Knights a 28-13 lead. Brewer was unable to respond offensively, and Arab held on to win it over the Patriots 28-13.
The Knights improve to 2-0 on the season with the win and will hit the road to face Douglas in a regional game next week.
