HOLLY POND, Ala. — The Holly Pond Lady Broncos hosted Good Hope and Cold Springs for a tri-match Monday night and the Lady Raiders came away with a sweep of both teams. The Lady Broncos were also able to earn a sweep over the Lady Eagles.
Holly Pond 3 – Cold Springs 0 (First Match)
Emma Earl (ace and kill) and Darla Fredrick (kill) helped Holly Pond jump out to a quick 7-0 lead in the first set. They would later push their lead to 12-2, but a point and a kill by Ciara Calvert cut the Holly Pond lead to 13-5. Aces by Kamryn Tankersley, Ellie Burks, and Madi Brown pushed the Lady Bronco lead to 20-7. The Lady Eagles cut it to 23-13 on a kill by Malaya Taylor, but Burks got the game-winning point for Holly Pond as they took the first set 25-13.
The second set saw Cold Springs take an early 2-0 lead behind an ace by Mary Warden, but Holly Pond quickly took command after that as they scored six of the next seven points to take a 6-3 lead. Earl collected a pair of aces and a point to help the Lady Broncos increase their lead to 11-3. They made it 18-4 on a Kaylee Rohrscheib ace, and Holly Pond went on to take the second set 25-10.
Holly Pond jumped out to another quick lead in the third set. Behind a kill by Tankersley and a Friedrick ace, the Lady Broncos got out to a quick 8-1 lead. A Burks kill made it 12-3, but the Lady Eagles scored the next three points to trim the deficit to six at 12-6. An ace by Tankersley pushed the Holly Pond lead to 17-6, but later on, Cold Springs cut it to 18-10 on a Kaley Barger ace. The Lady Eagles later made it 22-14 on a point by Taylor and an Ellanora Slusser kill and later trimmed it to 24-17, but Tankersley delivered the game-winning point for the Lady Broncos as they finished off the sweep of the Lady Eagles 25-17.
Good Hope 2 – Cold Springs 0 (Second Match)
It was back-and-forth early on in the first set between Cold Springs and Good Hope. The Lady Eagles held a slim 4-3 lead, but a point by Ivey Maddox and a point by Cameron Koch gave the Lady Raiders a 6-4 lead. Later on, Cold Springs reeled off four straight points to take a 10-8 lead, but Good Hope went on a huge run to get the lead right back. Four aces by Charly Johnson, a pair of points by Maddox, and a kill by Carley Adams gave the Lady Raiders a 19-11 lead. Later on, though, a kill by Calvert cut it to 19-14, but Cold Springs wouldn’t get any closer after that as Good Hope would go on to take the first set 25-19.
The second set saw Good Hope get off to a very fast start as Maddox collected four kills and Emma Bailey added an ace to give the Lady Raiders a 10-0 lead. They later pushed it to 16-1, but the Lady Eagles looked to make a little run to get back in the game. They cut it to 16-5, and later on, to 18-9, but Good Hope didn’t let them get any closer after that as a pair of points by Johnson and a pair of Koch aces helped them finish off the sweep of Cold Springs 25-12.
Good Hope 2 – Holly Pond 0 (Third Match)
The first set of the Holly Pond-Good Hope game was tight for most of the contest. The Lady Raiders jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead behind a pair of Maddox kills, and later pushed it to 8-4. Holly Pond later trimmed it to 11-9 on a Maycie Black kill, and later on, a Tankersley kill made it a 14-13 game. A point by Jolee McHan pushed the Lady Raider lead to 19-15, and they later made it 22-16. The Lady Broncos, though, made things a little interesting at the end as Tankersley delivered a kill to make it 22-17, then later on, a point by Ava Thomas cut it to 22-20. They cut it to one after that, but Good Hope was able to hold them off at the end as they scored the final three points, including the game-winning kill by Maddox, to take the first set 25-21.
The second set was a carbon copy of the first one as it went back-and-forth early on. Good Hope held a 5-2 lead after a Maddox kill, but the Lady Broncos scored the next six points of the set, including a kill by Blakely Baggett, an ace by Tankersley, and a point by Black, to take an 8-5 lead. A point by Baggett and a Black ace helped the Lady Broncos push their lead to 13-8 and later made it 15-9. Back-to-back aces by Johnson helped the Lady Raiders cut it to 15-12. Holly Pond held a slim 18-15 lead, but a Molly Benefield kill, a Maddox ace, and a McHan kill, tied things up at 18. The Lady Broncos got the lead right back and later pushed it to 24-20 as they looked to force a third set, but Good Hope had other plans, though, as they scored the final six points of the game, including a pair of kills by Maddox, and one by Johnson, to sweep the Lady Broncos 26-24.
