MAPLESVILLE, Ala. – Meek hit the road Friday night to kick off the 2023 season at Maplesville Friday night and the Tigers returned home with an 18-12 win over the Red Devils.
Maplesville capitalized on an early Meek interception and scored to take a 6-0 lead midway through the first quarter, but the Cam Deaver responded with a 15-yard touchdown run later in the second quarter to tie things up at 6 with five minutes remaining in the first half.
The score stayed knotted at 6 going into the break but Deaver’s second touchdown of the night put Meek in front 12-6 late in the third quarter. The Tigers put things away late in the fourth with a big defensive play. Justin Freeman picked off a Red Devils pass with less than three minutes on the clock and took it 50 yards the other way for a touchdown, putting Meek on top 18-6. Maplesville was able to put one in the end zone before time ran out, but it was too late to catch up with the Tigers and they left with an 18-12 win over the Red Devils.
Meek will look to stay in the win column next week when they return home to host Hackleburg.
