HOLLY POND, Ala. – The Holly Pond Broncos hosted the Clements Colts Friday night and kicked things off at 8 p.m. due to the current heat wave. Unfortunately for the home crowd, the Broncos were unable to heat up offensively and they fell to the Colts in game one 45-12.

The Bronco defense, led by Brody Howard, did an excellent job of keeping the Colt offense out of the end zone during the opening drive. The Colts, behind the strong running of Jayden Gilbert, drove the ball down to the Bronco 17 and on fourth down, Clements decided to attempt a 34-yard field goal with 9:22 left in the first quarter but missed wide left.

The Broncos started their opening drive on their own 20. Howard gets the Broncos up to their own 42. A couple of miscues and the Broncos find themselves backed up to their own 33.

Clements started his next possession on its own 35 and the game turned into the Jayden Gilbert show after that. The running back, part-time quarterback carried the Colts down to the 10-yard line. From the 10, Gilbert scored his first touchdown of the night to put Clements up 7-0.

The second quarter saw Gilbert score on runs of 26 and 53 yards and connect on a 53-yard touchdown pass to Tyree Holloway to close out the first half scoring and put Clements up 27-0 at the break.

After stopping the Broncos on their opening drive of the second half, the Colts started their next possession on their own 16. Gilbert then took a run 83 yards around the left side for another touchdown and stretched the lead to 33-0.

Holly Pond’s offense stalled on their own 18-yard line and the Broncos were forced to punt the ball away, but the Colts were able to block the punt and recover the ball on the Bronco’s 10. One play later Holloway scored his second touchdown of the night and put the Colts up 39-0.

Late in the fourth quarter, Holly Pond quarterback Sawyer Olinger scored a pair of touchdowns to get the Broncos on the board but that was as close as they could come down the stretch and Clements left with a 45-12 win.

Next week Holly Pond will travel to face the Eagles of Cold Springs.
