CULLMAN, Ala. – A new Cullman Savings Bank building will open later this year, and it will have some unique features. Not only will it serve as the bank’s new drive-through location, the building will also have three retail spaces, along with a second-floor, seven-room boutique hotel. The building is being built near Rumor’s Deli on the corner of Main Avenue Southwest and U.S. Highway 278. It is expected to open in October.
Cullman Savings Bank President and CEO John Riley said he is excited about the new project. Initially, he just wanted to give customers a drive-through location that would make the exit process easier, but in the end, he said, he decided he wanted to do more with the building.
“Everything the bank does tries to benefit Cullman. Rather than just build the drive through here, we wanted to build something that would add to the Cullman experience,” he said. “An upscale retail and boutique hotel is what we thought would be popular and what people would want.”
Each of the seven hotel rooms will have a Cullman-related theme. One example Riley gave is the Wilderness Room, featuring locations like Sportsman Lake Park and Bankhead National Forest. Another is a room called the Steeple Room, which features some of the unique churches around town.
“I want to showcase Cullman’s history,” said Riley, who explained he wants to highlight Cullman to anyone visiting from out of town and give them locations to check out while they are here.
Each room will be equipped with a kitchenette. The second floor will have a wraparound balcony every room will have access to. There will also be a boardroom on the second floor and a fireplace in the living room/lobby area.
“Cullman has been good to me, and I want to give back in a positive way,” Riley said.
Riley said he expects the building to open in October.
