Lyla L. England, 89, of Vinemont, Alabama passed away on Thursday, Aug. 3, 2023. She was born in Cullman, Alabama on Feb. 3, 1934.

She is survived by her daughter, Tena (Steve) Freeman; son, Kent (Sherry) England; grandchildren, Zac (Misty) Freeman and Brittany (Wesley) Sams; four great grandchildren, Allie Freeman, Olen Freeman, Brenten Sams and Brinley Sams and a host of nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Noah Aris and Ledell Cornelius Aris; husband, Bob England; sister, Jan Livingston and brother, Levell Aris.

Lyla was a beautician for 63 years working in her own shop. She loved her customers and the joy they brought to her life. She especially enjoyed the beauty shop talk. Lyla and her husband Bob farmed their 54 years of marriage. She loved life and being outdoors. She enjoyed gardening and flowers. She was a mom and grandma to many, not just family. Everyone who knew her and loved her called her Mama Lyla. She loved to have company and hospitality was one of her most notable characteristics. She loved making people smile and cooking for people.

She was a faithful member of Bethlehem West Baptist Church where she worshiped her entire life. She loved her church family and loved spending time with them no matter the occasion. Each time there was a meal at church, she prepared green beans. Her green beans were world-renowned and they were definitely her claim to fame. Everyone loved Mama Lyla’s green beans. She didn’t talk about priorities, she lived them. She lived them in a manner that they were easy to recognize. Faith, family, and friends. Her faith has now become a reality; she is in the presence of her Savior. Family and friends, she will be missed by all of us who knew her and loved her. Our lives will never be the same, but life will go on; she would want it that way.

We will cherish the memories of all the things that she taught us, all the ways that she shared her love with us, and all the times we learned from her by watching her live her life. She will be missed, but we will see her again.

Funeral service will be Sunday, Aug. 6, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Bethlehem West Baptist Church. She will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Bethlehem West Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, Aug. 5 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the church.

Pallbearers are Dale Nunnelley, Albert Mayo, Butch Aris, Eddie Walker, Benton Thompson, Kenny Waters, Kyle Aris and Joe Dingler.
