1 arrested, 1 suspect still at large in traffic incident

CULLMAN, Ala. – Early Tuesday morning patrol deputies from Morgan County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of two possibly stolen Polaris ATVs traveling recklessly on Interstate 65 South. The vehicles failed to yield to lights and sirens and attempted to elude, according to the MCSO, driving southbound in the northbound lanes at times.

According to the MCSO, with assistance from Cullman law enforcement, the vehicles were stopped near Exits 310 and 308. One subject was taken into custody while the other fled on foot.

Cullman County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Chad Whaley stated, “We are currently assisting Morgan County with a K9 track of an individual that fled on foot.”

The MCSO arrested Tywon Javon Wyatt, 21, of Bessemer. He has charges pending for improper lane usage, reckless driving, failure to stop at a stop sign and reckless endangerment. He was also charged with attempting to elude.

According to the MCSO, Wyatt also had an outstanding warrant. Additional charges are possible in relation to the alleged theft of the ATVs in Athens.

As of press time the subject who fled on foot is still at large. The CCSO will continue to assist the MCSO in the search.
