BREMEN, Ala. — The Cold Springs Eagles baseball team won their area and made it to the playoffs. Junior Ethan Nabors talked about that season and what he learned, and what it was like playing with a great group of guys.

“This season could have gone better. We had our ups and downs,” Nabors said. “I learned that with teamwork and just talking each other up, making those few plays can make or break a game. They were great. The team chemistry was a lot better than the year before. Everybody got along with each other and we were there for each other if someone needed help.”

Ethan liked playing under new head coach Brendan Voce and he learned some things from him and from coach Justin Chafin. He completed his second year on varsity and learned an important lesson during his time on varsity so far.

“The coaches were good. Having a new head coach was huge for us. He was a good teacher, and he was just good with the players. Coach Chafin, as always, was a good person to learn from. They taught us to work together, never quit, and to always keep our heads up, even if things aren’t going our way; they can in a matter of a few decisions,” Nabors said. “I need to enjoy every second of it. I don’t have much time left with baseball.”

Ethan soaked up as much as he could from last year’s seniors. He will continue to get better in the offseason as he gets ready for next season, and he has some goals set for this upcoming season.

“It was great. They were the leaders, and they were also like coaches to us younger guys. They taught me how to play better and that baseball is important, but there are other things more important. As soon as my arm heals, I’ll get back on the field and work on my fielding, pitching, and my batting. My individual goal is to just get better as a hitter. My team goals are to have more pitchers, win area again and make the playoffs again.”

Ethan thinks next year’s team will be very special to watch. He talked about a couple of role models that he had growing up and the best advice that someone ever gave him.

“We’ve got a lot to prove and we’re going to have a lot of seniors, so we’re going to leave it all out on the field,” he said. “Brodee Bartlett was one, for sure, and the other one was Cody Bales from my 10th grade year. They were great leaders, and they just loved the game. The best advice someone gave me was to keep my head up. Success is just one step away.”
