CULLMAN, Ala. – With Rock the South being many seasoned concertgoers’ first experience at a music festival, here is a collection of tips that attendees may find helpful for a fun and safe experience.

  1. Check out the grounds

When you first arrive, take an hour or so to walk the grounds and familiarize yourself with areas you might need to know, such as bathroom areas, medical attention tents and water stations. You’re bound to come across some neat vendors or tailgating groups, also!

  • Secure your belongings

Make sure your important belongings like ID, cash, keys, etc. are secure, hidden and on you at all times. Backpacks may seem like a no-brainer, but with easily accessible zippers you may become a target for theft. Belt bags are trending and the perfect option to keep your items safe and secure, while still looking stylish. If all else fails, tuck a cardholder in your boot!

  • Utilize the buddy system

We’re throwing it back to kindergarten with this tip: if you’re attending Rock the South with a group of friends, assign “buddies” and make sure to stay connected. This tip is particularly helpful for those who may be drinking and might need an extra set of eyes to make sure they don’t wander backstage! If you’re attending the festival alone, make sure to check in periodically with a trusted friend or family member outside in case of an emergency.

  • Dress for the weather

While everyone knows Rock the South is synonymous with cut-off denim, cropped tops and boots, consider prioritizing comfort and sun safety after your Instagram-worthy OOTD. You’re sure to be shoulder to shoulder with other sweaty strangers, so reapply sunscreen as needed or wear a thin coverup to prevent sunburn. Additionally, consider grabbing a pair of comfy sneakers or already broken-in boots with a low heel to help navigate the outdoor terrain of the venue.

  • Drink responsibly

Where there’s alcohol, there are bound to be hangovers. To avoid a miserable weekend, don’t drink on an empty stomach, and consider pacing your alcohol consumption and balancing it out with electrolyte drinks or powders. A good rule of thumb is to drink one bottle of water for every alcoholic drink consumed.

Rock the South will take place July 20-22 in Cullman. This year’s headliner is country music superstar Chris Stapleton. Find out more at www.rockthesouth.com.
