HANCEVILLE, Ala. – For lovers of classic television variety ensembles and family-friendly comedy, Senior Outreach Players has compiled a showcase of humor and characters that combines classic settings, side-splitting tropes and creative storytelling fit for all ages. The characters and settings of “Hee Haw,” “The Andy Griffith Show” and “Mama’s Family” will all come together under one roof on Sept. 14, 2023, at 7 p.m. at the Betty Leeth Hanes Theatre on the campus of Wallace State Community College.
While the Senior Outreach Players have staged various shows over the last five years, the newest show incorporates the settings and characters of all three television shows they love to pay homage to.
Director Jamie Looney shared that it’s more than a performance for her colorful group of players; it’s an opportunity for true fellowship and a creative outlet many don’t find in their golden years.
“They love each other! They find life-long friendships, they laugh, they love and it really improves their memory,” she said. “Not to mention it gives them a sense of confidence that they still ‘got it!’”
When discussing the performance slated for September, Looney said it’ll be the biggest and best so far, in part due to the creative combination of previous shows, but also due to the new location.
“The September show is going to be great,” she said. “Our one problem has always been our stage wasn’t big enough to do the whole show. I am so excited to have curtains to open and close, too!”
Tickets are $10, with all funds raised going back to the Senior Outreach Organization. If you wish to donate, contact Jamie Looney at 256-339-9863.
