CULLMAN, Ala. – A pedestrian struck outside Publix in Cullman on Tuesday, May 9, succumbed to her injuries after being transported to UAB Hospital in Birmingham.
Cullman County Coroner Jeremy Kilpatrick said Patricia Ross, 91, of Cullman, died at UAB.
“She was struck by a car at Publix last night,” he said. “The 911 call was placed shortly after 7 p.m.”
According to Cullman Police Chief David Nassetta, the incident was a low-speed crash on private property, and nothing at the scene implied recklessness on the part of the driver, Janice Lee, 77, of Vinemont.
“It really surprised us when we found out that she had passed away, because, according to the officers on scene, she was conscious; she was talking,” Nassetta said.
CPD Traffic Homicide Investigator Sgt Joey Duncan said he has spoken with the district attorney’s office and will be doing a complete investigation on its recommendation. No charges have been filed.
