October is here -the month of witches, black cats and spooks. Already at Fairview High we are looking forward to the big event of the year, “The Fall Carnival.” There is much talk and speculation about who the juniors and seniors will run for the “Queen of the Carnival.” Already there is controversy between the juniors and seniors as to whose candidate will be elected. The seniors say that the seniors will win, but the juniors disagree and are firm in their belief that the seniors can be beat. Anyway, it should be a “Whale of a scrap.”

Eight Calvert Sisters Have Get-Together

The eight daughters of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joe Calvert and their families had a “get-together” on Sunday, October 17th, at the old school house at Brushy Pond. Those present, besides the eight daughters were their 38 children, 66 grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. There were 151 members of the family, as well as many friends present.

They enjoyed a wonderful dinner and great fellowship of being together for the first time. All the grandchildren could not be there because some were in military service and others lived too far away.

The daughters present were: Mrs. Manila Harbison, Mrs. G.W. Goodwin, Mrs. C.A. Cruce, Mrs. Emily Bates, Mrs. Annie Allred, Mrs. Arthur Lott, Mrs. Delta Goodwin and Mrs. Alvin Davis.

Also present was the family of the deceased daughter, Mrs. Bertha Goodwin. Mrs. Trimble was the first saleslady employed by C.A. Stiefelmeyer. She also taught several years in the county schools. She has been an active member of the Church of Christ for 66 years.

In 1911, Miss King and James M. Trimble were married. They have seven children, 15 grandchildren and 13 great- grandchildren.

Mrs. Trimble’s hobbies are reading, writing and listening to seven or eight sermons over the radio each day. She writes down the Bible references the ministers quote and then reads these herself. She also loves flowers.

A large group of friends joined Mrs. Trimble for her birthday on Monday.
