Cullman 11 – New Hope 3 (Softball)
New Hope struck first in their opening at-bats as a two-run home run with one out gave them a 2-0 lead, but Cullman answered right back in their half. Haley Shannon and Kylie Stracener each reached base on a bunt single to lead off the inning. With one out, Taylor Au hit an RBI single up the middle to cut it to 2-1. The Lady Bearcats got the lead and then some in their next at-bats.
Abby Maples reached on a bunt single with one out, then Shannon lined a double to center field to tie the game up at two. An error during the play allowed Shannon to move up to third, then she scored on a bunt single by Stracener as that gave Cullman a 3-2 lead. Reese Hopper later added an RBI single to center field to make it 4-2, then a walk loaded the bases. Brooklyn Morton hit a bases-clearing single to push their lead to 7-2. An RBI double by the Lady Indians in the top of the third cut it to 7-3, but the Lady Bearcats added to their lead in their half.
A pair of singles had runners on the corners to lead off the inning, then Stracener continued her red-hot day at the plate as she lined an RBI single to left field to make it an 8-3 game. Later in the inning, Cullman loaded the bases with one out, then a sacrifice fly by Hopper brought home two more runs as that stretched their lead to 10-3. A two-out RBI single by Sadie Graham made it 11-3, and the Lady Bearcats held the lead for the remainder of the game as they went on to defeat New Hope 11-3.
Stracener (two RBIs) and Shannon (one RBI) each finished with four hits in the game for Cullman. Hopper and Morton each added a hit and three RBIs. Au ended up with a pair of hits and an RBI. Sadie Graham collected a hit and an RBI in the contest. Maples added a pair of hits and Hattie Graham chipped in with a hit of her own. Summer Storey went the distance in the win for the Lady Bearcats as she gave up just five hits and three earned runs in the contest.
Cullman 2 – Priceville 0 (Softball)
This game was a pitcher’s duel from the start as the game was scoreless going into the third. Cullman got in the run column first as Hattie Graham drew a leadoff walk and later scored on a two-out RBI single by Stracener to give them a 1-0 lead. The Lady Bearcats scored their second and final run of the game in the top of the fifth inning as Graham hit a leadoff double and later scored on an RBI single by Shannon. Starter Brie Voss held Priceville to just one hit in four innings, walked one, and struck out two as Cullman went on to shut out the Lady Bulldogs, 2-0.
Shannon and Stracener each finished with a hit and an RBI for Cullman. Au, Hattie Graham, and Maples each added a hit as well.
The Lady Bearcats will host West Point on Monday.
West Point 7 – Pelham 6 (Softball)
West Point struck first in their opening at-bats. Macayla Wilkins hit a leadoff single and advanced to second on the throw. Macie Brown hit an RBI single to left field to put the Lady Warriors in the run column first, then with two outs, Lexi Kimbril hit an RBI single of her own to left field to give West Point a 2-0 lead. Pelham responded in their half as an RBI single, a passed ball, and a two-run single gave them a 4-2 lead. The Lady Panthers added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth on a pair of RBI singles as that pushed their lead to 6-2.
The Lady Warriors, though, countered in the top of the fifth. Wilkins reached on a bunt single to lead off the inning, then later on with one out, Brinlee Phillps got hit by the pitch. Bethany Minck cut it to 6-3 on an RBI double to center field, then a two-run fielder’s choice by Katie Beth Yovino trimmed the deficit to just one at 6-5. One out later, Bailey Brock delivered the biggest hit of the game for the Lady Warriors as her two-out, two-run home run gave them a 7-6 lead. Kara Jones would proceed to retire Pelham in order in the bottom of the fifth to end the game as West Point picked up a big 7-6 win over Pelham.
Brock finished with a two-run home run in the game for West Point. Yovino added a pair of RBIs. Kimbril ended up with a pair of hits and an RBI. Brown and Bethany Minck each added a hit and an RBI as well. Wilkins collected three hits in the contest, while Phillips and Ella Minck each chipped in with a hit of their own.
Albertville 9 – West Point 7 (Softball)
West Point couldn’t have asked for a better start to their game against Albertville. Brown drove in Wilkins on an RBI groundout to start the scoring off for the Lady Warriors, then Bethany Minck added an RBI single, and she later scored on an Albertville error to make it a 3-0 game. Brock later lined an RBI single to center field to give West Point a 4-0 lead after one. The score remained the same until the bottom of the fourth as Brown drew a bases-loaded walk to force home a run to make it 5-0.
The Lady Aggies got on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth on an RBI groundout as that made it a 5-1 game, but the Lady Warriors got that run back in their half as Ella Minck’s RBI single with two outs pushed their lead to 6-1. Albertville quickly got the momentum back on their side in the top of the sixth as a pair of RBI singles cut it to 6-3, then a bases-clearing double tied the game up at six. Another RBI single gave them a 7-6 lead, but the Lady Warriors tied the game up at seven in the bottom of the sixth on a Yovino RBI single. The Lady Aggies broke the tie in the top of the seventh as they scored on a West Point error and an RBI fielder’s choice to take a 9-7 lead. The Lady Warriors went down in order to end the game as they dropped a heartbreaker to Albertville 9-7.
Brown finished with a pair of RBIs for West Point. Yovino added a pair of hits and an RBI. Bethany and Ella Minck each collected a hit and an RBI in the contest, while Wilkins, Brock, and Phillips each finished with a pair of hits as well.
West Point will travel to take on Cullman Monday.
