CULLMAN, Ala. – The Lady Bearcats returned home Tuesday night to host Pinson Valley and celebrated senior night with an 11-1 win over the Lady Indians. The three seniors, Haley Shannon, Olivia Britton and Emma-Claire Wilson were recognized before the game and Wilson ended up throwing the first pitch as well.
Starter Brie Voss got off to a great start on the mound, striking out a pair of hitters in a one-two-three inning. Cullman didn’t waste any time giving her some early run support either. Shannon drew a leadoff walk, then stole second. Kylie Stracener hit an RBI single up the middle to bring home Shannon to put the Lady Bearcats in the run column first, then she stole second. Britton got hit by the pitch to put runners on first and second with no outs, then with two outs, Sadie Graham drew a walk to load the bases. Brooklyn Morton and Hattie Graham each drew walks to bring home two more runs as the Lady Bearcats upped their lead to 3-0.
Cullman added to their lead in the bottom of the third. A pair of walks had the Lady Bearcats in business with one out, then Hattie Graham lined an RBI single to center field to make it 4-0. A single by Abby Maples loaded the bases for Shannon, who hit an RBI fielder’s choice to push their lead to 5-0. Pinson Valley got in the run column in the top of the fourth on a throwing error as that cut it to 5-1, but the Lady Bearcats got that run back in their half as Britton scored on an error to make it 6-1.
Cullman quickly ended things in their next at-bats. They loaded the bases to start out the inning, then Taylor Au lined a two-run single to center field on the first pitch to push their lead to 8-1. Later on, with one out, Sadie Graham hit an RBI single of her own to make it 9-1. Au scored on another error and Morton ended things with an RBI groundout as the Lady Bearcats picked up an 11-1 win over Pinson Valley.
Au (one hit) and Hattie Graham (one hit) each finished with two RBIs for Cullman. Morton added a pair of RBIs as well. Stracener collected three hits and an RBI in the contest. Sadie Graham posted a pair of hits and an RBI as well. Shannon ended up with a hit and an RBI, while Britton and Maples each chipped in with a hit of their own. Voss went the distance for the Lady Bearcats as she gave up just four hits and one unearned run, walked none, and struck out eight.
Cullman will host Spain Park Thursday.
