GOOD HOPE, Ala. – Cross Country and Track & Field season have been successful ones at Good Hope High School this year and eighth grader Aubrey Scott talked about her seasons, what all she learned, and what it was like being around a great group of people.

“I felt that it went really well. I was able to have lots of fun, while still working hard. The girls won county and it was a very exciting experience. I learned a lot about teamwork and not giving up,” Scott said. “It was a very encouraging, thrilling, and enjoyable experience. All of my coaches and teammates supported me and made sure to hold me accountable.”

Aubrey has learned some things from her coaches, and she took away some things from some incredible athletes last season.

“My coaches have all been uplifting and overall amazing. They have taught me to be patient and to keep pushing, no matter how hard it gets,” Scott said. “They have all been such fantastic friends and sources of inspiration. Some of these people include Addie Stripling, Rudi Derrick, and Bonnie Williams, who have all been so kind to me. Rudi says often, ‘The pain will only last for a moment.’ I learned to try my absolute best, even when it is extremely difficult, and to stay positive.”

Aubrey will work on some things to get ready for the upcoming season and talked about her goals and the team goals as well, plus what will make this team special to watch next season.

“I plan on working on my 1600m and 800m races. I hope to have a 2:45 or under for the 800m and 6:30 or under for the 1600m,” she said. “I hope to get to the state tournament with the 4x800m relay race. The team wants to put as many people as possible into the state tournament and possibly go home with a trophy. This group of people is filled with potential. There are lots of young teammates that will improve and help out the team.”

Aubrey talked about one of her role models growing up, plus the best advice that she was ever given.

“I look up to Addie Stripling, because even through her injury, she persevered and came through when the team needed her,” she said. “The best advice I have received has been from Rudi, when she told me, ‘The pain will only last for a moment.'”
