Obituary: SFC Kermit Martin Ivey

Graveside service for SFC Kermit Martin Ivey, age 86, of Hanceville, will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ivey passed away on Monday, April 10, 2023, at UAB Hospital. He was born June 17, 1936, in Georgia to Grady Martin Ivey and Rosa Ivey.

He loved with his whole heart. He loved his entire family and an abundance of friends. To know him was to love him.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, James Ivey, Hubert Ivey, Nell Spradlin, Pete Ivey, Alton Ivey, and Opal Ivey.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Ivey; children, Judy (Alan) Phelps, Joanie Oaks, Tony (Brandi) Ivey, Colby (Tisha) Chamblee, Christine Chamblee, and Katie Chamblee; grandchildren, Kerry (Brooke) Baswell, Page (Will) Dowdy, Kody (Tatyana) Baswell, Sara (Jacob) Kirkpatrick, Zak (Jordan) Ivey, Matthew Phelps, Kadi (Justin) Smith, and Amari Malcom; great-grandchildren, Noran Kirkpatrick, Asher Kirkpatrick, Mia Kirkpatrick, Breaker Baswell, Bridge Baswell, Brash Baswell, Bhiana Baswell, Brayden Baswell, Max Baswell, Vicktor Baswell, Madeline Dowdy, Georgia Dowdy, Carter Ivey, and Carson Ivey; brother, J.C. (Pam) Ivey; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hanceville EMT, CRMC Emergency/Trauma units, UAB NICU Medical Staff, and the Air Evac Lifeteam.
