MIAMI, Fla. – UAB (7-16, 2-4) held FIU (13-12, 2-4) to a score of 5-2 and secured the first Conference USA series win of the season. The Blazers totaled a combined 25 runs during the three-game matchup – most runs in a series win so far in 2023.

UAB scored in the third, fifth, sixth and eighth innings while the Panthers scored their only two runs in the first three innings. Both teams collected 12 hits, but the Blazers brought in more runs after leaving only nine men on base compared to FIU’s 13.

All but two of UAB’s batters collected hits on the day including Christian Hall (2-for-4), Logan Braunschweig (2-for-5), Brayton Brown (2-for-4) and Ben Abernathy (2-for-3) who all recorded a multi-hit game.

Hall doubled in the third before he hit a game-tying home run to left field in the fifth to collect his second homer and 18th RBI of the season. Braunschweig extended his hit streak after hitting two singles and collected his seventh stolen base of the year. Brown also picked up two singles to end the series with seven hits and only one strikeout through 14 at bats. Abernathy recorded a season high in RBIs (2) after both his hits – a single and a double – brought in UAB baserunners. Gavin Lewis Jr. collected his fifth double on the year and scored one of the Blazers’ runs after Tyler Waugh hit an RBI single. Henry Hunter hit his second triple of the series to earn his 10th RBI.

On the mound for the Blazers, starter Carson Myers (1-1) picked up his first win of the year while John Luke Marlin (1) earned his first save for UAB. Myers allowed two runs – both earned – on 10 hits with six strikeouts during his five complete innings. After Myers, Tyler O’Clair made his fourth appearance on the hill and threw two and a third of an inning. He allowed no runs on two hits with a season high in strikeouts (5). Marlin relieved O’Clair in the seventh and threw a shutout one and two thirds of an inning with three strikeouts.
