HANCEVILLE, Ala. – Fairview made the short trip over to Hanceville to take on the Bulldogs Tuesday night and it was a game the Aggies dominated from start to finish. A big second and third inning was more than enough for Fairview to pull away and pick up a 21-2 win over the Bullodgs.
Starter Hayden Black issued a one-out walk to Lucas West and West later stole second. But Ashton Hurst threw him out attempting to steal third and Black struck out Barrett York to end the inning. Hanceville didn’t waste any time giving him some run support. Jake Cornelius got hit by the pitch to lead off their half of the first, then one out later, Les Fischer lined a single to left field and an Aggie error on the play allowed Cornelius to score to put them in the run column first. The Bulldogs loaded the bases with two outs and Tripp Lewis drew a walk to force home a run to make it 2-0.
It didn’t take long for Fairview to respond in a big way as they batted around in the second inning. Caden Jennings got hit by the pitch to lead off the inning, then Carson Jones hit a single to left field. After a passed ball, Connor Scott hit an RBI single to cut it to 2-1, then Jones scored on a passed ball to tie the game up at two. Gannon Black followed that up with an RBI single and Daniel Hostetler scored on a passed ball to give the Aggies a 4-2 lead. Devyn Ellis and Black scored on a Bulldog error, Lucas West hit an RBI groundout, then later on with two outs, Jones hit an RBI triple and would score on a Hanceville error to push their lead to 9-2.
Fairview continued to widen its lead in the third when Hayden Griffin squared up an RBI single and York lined an RBI double to right field to increase their lead to 11-2. Two outs later, Jones and York crossed the plate on a Hanceville error, Black hit a two-run double, and Crimson Wright hit an RBI infield single to make it 16-2. Fairview added a run in the fourth as Jennings scored on a passed ball and four more in the fifth on an RBI single by Griffin, a sacrifice fly by Jones, a Hostetler RBI single, and a bases-loaded walk by Black. The Aggies ended up rolling past the Bulldogs in five innings 21-2.
Black led the way for Fairview (5-9) with two hits and four RBIs. Wright added a hit and three RBIs. Griffin and Jones each ended up with a pair of hits and two RBIs. York added a pair of hits and an RBI. Scott collected a pair of hits and an RBI. Hostetler added a hit and an RBI. West ended up with an RBI, while Jennings and Ellis each chipped in with a hit of their own. For Hanceville (4-9), Lewis finished with a hit and an RBI, while Cornelius, Fischer, and Dalton Pirkle each added a hit.
Fairview will head on the road once again as they will travel to take on Falkville, while Hanceville will travel to take on Holly Pond Thursday.
Cold Springs 13 – Vinemont 3 (Softball)
After a scoreless first inning, Cold Springs struck first in the bottom of the second. Brooklyn Ingram reached on a Vinemont error, then she stole second. Kortnie Williams drove her in on an RBI single, then Cameron Baty reached on another Vinemont error. One out later, Ella Bruer hit an RBI fielder’s choice to make it 2-0. Arleigh Thomason hit a leadoff single in the top of the third for Vinemont, then one out later, Brinley Pair hit a single of her own to put runners at first and second. After a passed ball, Callie Millwood hit an RBI groundout to cut it to 2-1.
Cold Springs added to their lead in their half. Sadie Smith reached on an infield single, then Ingram’s RBI double brought home Smith to make it 3-1. Williams followed that up with an RBI double of her own to push their lead to 4-1. Cold Springs quickly broke the game wide open in their next at-bats. Hope Speegle and Bruer each reached on Vinemont errors to lead off the inning, then Ciara Calvert hit a two-run single to increase their lead to 6-1. Calvert scored on a Vinemont error, then later on, Smith, Williams, and Baty each hit RBI singles and Williams scored on a passed ball to widen their lead to 11-1.
Thomason hit a solo home run for Vinemont in the top of the fifth to cut it to 11-2, then with one out, Angela Harris hit an RBI single to make it an 11-3 game. Cold Springs promptly ended the game in their half as Peyton Kennedy and Adriana Young each hit singles to lead off the inning. Then, with one out, Ingram hit a two-run single to end the game as Cold Springs ended up defeating Vinemont, 13-3.
Ingram and Williams each finished with three hits and three RBIs for Cold Springs (2-4). Calvert added a hit and a pair of RBIs. Smith ended up with a pair of hits and an RBI. Baty and Bruer each chipped in with a hit and an RBI of their own. Young finished with three hits and Kennedy collected a hit as well. For Vinemont (0-8), Millwood and Thomason each finished with a pair of hits and an RBI. Harris added a hit and an RBI. Pair, Katelyn Evans, and Emma Dortch each ended up with a hit as well.
Cold Springs will travel to take on Holly Pond and Vinemont will go to Decatur Heritage Thursday.
Cold Springs 11 – Winston County 1 (Baseball)
Cold Springs got off to a quick start to the game and it all started with two outs. Josh Winfrey and Tucker Philbeck each hit consecutive singles, then Cody Smith hit an RBI single to give them the early lead. After a Brady Phillips single loaded the bases, Matt Williams got hit by the pitch to force home a run to make it 2-0. Cole Bales retired Winston County in order in their half, then the Eagles added to their lead in the second. Bales hit a one-out single to center field, then after he moved to second on a passed ball, Brodee Bartlett hit an RBI single to left and would later score on a Yellow Jacket error to push the Eagle lead to 4-0.
Winston County got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third on an RBI single as that cut it to 4-1, but Cold Springs quickly broke the game wide open in the top of the fifth. Winfrey hit a leadoff single, then Philbeck drew a walk. Winfrey stole third and scored on a passed ball, then Phillips hit an RBI groundout to make it 6-1. A suicide squeeze play by Williams made it 7-1, then after Cold Springs loaded the bases, Bartlett quickly unloaded them on just the second pitch as his three-run double to center field push their lead to 10-1. Winfrey added an RBI single to make it 11-1, then Bales worked out of a bases-loaded jam by getting a groundout to end the game as Cold Springs picked up an 11-1 win over Winston County.
Bartlett finished with two hits and four RBIs for Cold Springs (5-9). Winfrey added three hits and an RBI. Smith and Phillips each ended up with a hit and an RBI. Williams collected a pair of RBIs. Bales added a pair of hits, while Philbeck and Kaiden Graves each chipped in with a hit of their own.
The Eagles will host Carbon Hill Thursday.
Fairview 9 – Falkville 5 (Softball)
Falkville struck first in their opening at-bats on an RBI groundout, but Fairview responded in a big way in their half. Jaycee Aleman drew a one-out walk, then stole second. Kylie Kovar drove her in on an RBI double, then Ayda Payne followed that up with one of her own to give the Lady Aggies a 2-1 lead. They were far from done, though, as with two outs, Addison Phillips hit an RBI double and after a walk, Ada Fales hit a two-run double to make it 5-1. Jordan Simmons added an RBI single to center field to push their lead to 6-1.
The Lady Blue Devils cut into the deficit in the top of the third, as a one-out RBI double and a passed ball allowed them to swivel the deficit to three at 6-3. Fairview added a run in their half. Phillips hit a leadoff double and after a sacrifice bunt, Fales hit an RBI single to push their lead to 7-3. The Lady Aggies added to their lead in the fourth as Kovar led off the inning with a single, then Payne took the second pitch of the at-bat over the center field fence for a two-run homer to stretch their lead to 9-3.
Falkville made things a little interesting in their final at-bats as they got a two-out rally started. A leadoff error, then a passed ball, had them with a runner on third. Two outs later, an RBI single cut it to 9-4. After another single, their second RBI single of the inning made it a 9-5 game. Phillips got the next batter to hit a ground ball right back to her to end the game as Fairview collected a 9-5 win over Falkville. They have now won five straight games.
Payne (three hits) and Fales (two hits) each finished with three RBIs for Fairview (10-8). Kovar and Phillips each added a pair of hits and an RBI. Simmons ended up with a hit and an RBI, while Emily Benson chipped in with a hit of her own.
The Lady Aggies will host West Point Thursday.
Good Hope 8 – Ashville 7 (Baseball)
Ashville struck first in their opening at-bats as a two-run double gave them an early 2-0 lead, but Good Hope answered right back in their half. Dakota Overton drew a leadoff walk, moved up to second on a wild pitch, and then, up to third on a ground ball. Caden Drake lined an RBI double to center field to cut it to 2-1, then he would score on a passed ball to tie the game up at two.
The Bulldogs hit a two-run home run over the left field fence in the top of the third as that gave them a 4-2 lead, but the Raiders cut into the deficit in their half. Overton drew a leadoff walk, then a ground ball moved him up to third. Carter Naramore hit a sacrifice fly to center field to cut it to 4-3. Ashville added a run in the fourth on an RBI double, but Good Hope would get their first lead of the game in their next at-bats. They loaded the bases with no outs, then Brady Stripling’s two-run single tied the game up at five. Colbi Kilpatrick hit an RBI fielder’s choice to give the Raiders a 6-5 lead.
Ashville tied the game in the seventh on a Good Hope error, then ended up taking the lead on an RBI single with two outs. The Raiders looked for some late-game heroics of their own in their final at-bats. Colten Whatley and Dawson Kicker each hit a single to lead off the inning and an error on the same play allowed them to move up to second and third with no outs. Caden Drake’s RBI infield single tied the game up at seven, then Ayden Black followed that up with the game-winning RBI infield single as Good Hope ended up getting a huge 8-7 win over Ashville.
Stripling and Drake each finished with a pair of hits and two RBIs for Good Hope (5-7). Black added a pair of hits and the game-winning RBI. Naramore and Kilpatrick each ended up with an RBI. Whatley added a pair of hits and Kicker chipped in with a hit of his own.
Good Hope will have a rematch with Ashville on the road Thursday in a doubleheader.
Vinemont 6 – Danville 2 (Baseball)
The game went into the bottom of the second still scoreless, but Vinemont would be the team that would strike first. Jaxon Holcomb reached on a Danville error to lead off the inning, but would get forced out at second as Joshua Rhodes reached on a fielder’s choice. One out later, back-to-back Hawk errors allowed Rhodes to cross the plate to give the Eagles the 1-0 lead.
Danville tied the game up at one in the top of third as they scored on a passed ball and they took the lead in the fifth on an RBI single. Vinemont got the lead right back in their half. A trio of singles loaded up the bases, then Ayden Thomason drew a walk to tie the game up at two. Holcomb promptly unloaded the bases as he hit a three-run double to left field to give the Eagles a 5-2 lead, then Rhodes followed that up with an RBI single to make it 6-2. Jake Hale pitched a scoreless sixth and seventh inning to end the game as Vinemont ended up defeating Danville, 6-2.
Holcomb finished with a hit and three RBIs for Vinemont (9-7). Rhodes added a hit and an RBI. Thomason ended up with an RBI. Michael Foust added three hits, while Hale, Rush Sandlin, and Chayce Sandlin each chipped in with a hit of their own.
Vinemont will have a rematch with Danville on the road Thursday in a doubleheader.
