Obituary: Sgt. Michael Satangai Boyd

Funeral services for Sgt. Michael Satangai Boyd of Cullman will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 27, 2023 at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow the service at Mt. Olive Cemetery in the Simcoe Community. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the funeral home on Monday prior to the service.

Sgt. Boyd was born to Donnie Busby and Denise Bright on Tuesday, July 18, 1978. He retired from his earthly duties on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at the age of 44. Sgt. Boyd was a proud member of The United States Army before retiring in 2012. Aside from his career in the military, most of his time was spent with those he loved and playing the guitar every chance he had.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Phillips-Boyd; daughters, Katie Westbrook (James) and Sarah Phillips (Kaleb); mother, Denise Bright; grandchildren, Bentley Calloway, Brooklyn Calloway, Josie Calloway and Oakley Sivils; siblings, Christy Boyd, Kim Hyatt (Donnie), Hoss Bright (Katherine), Melinda Wigsmoen (Mike), Belinda Fuson (James), Misty Busby and Donald Busby Jr. (Leslie); brother-in-law, Bob Phillips (Tammy) and a host of nieces and nephews.

Sgt. Boyd was preceded in death by his father, Donald Ray Busby Sr.; step-father, Randy Bright, grandfather, Tharlin Shelton; and grandmothers, Gayree Shelton and Willie Mae Busby.

Serving as pallbearers will be Daniel Phillips, Lee Shaw, Steven Mitchell, Ben McMahon, Andrew Phillips, Hoss Bright. Hunter Phillips will serve as an Honorary Pallbearer.
