VINEMONT, Ala. – After defeating Locust Fork on the road 13-3 Tuesday, the Vinemont Eagles returned home Wednesday for an afternoon matchup against Falkville. The Eagles held a 2-1 lead early in the game and put some runs on the board in the sixth to cut into Falkville’s lead but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Blue Devils and Vinemont fell 10-5.
Falkville got on the scoreboard first in their opening at-bats as a leadoff single would later led to them scoring on a wild pitch to give them the early lead. Vinemont would answer in their half. Michael Foust drew a one-out walk, then Jacob Hale reached on a Blue Devil error. Ayden Thomason made them pay for their mistake as he hit a two-run single up the middle to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead.
The score remained the same until the third inning, as Falkville got a two-out rally started with back-to-back walks. An RBI single tied the game up at two. The Blue Devils broke the tie in their next at-bats as they loaded the bases with one out. A two-run single to right field gave them a 4-2 lead, then they would break the game wide open in the fifth. They once again loaded the bases with one out. A walk forced home a run, then an RBI single was followed by a two-run single to make it 8-2. They added an RBI groundout to push their lead to 9-2.
Vinemont looked to get something in their half. Thomason drew a two-out walk, then Rylan McRae lined a single to right field to put runners on the corners. A fly out, though, would put an end to the inning. The Eagles started to cut into the Falkville lead in the bottom of the sixth. Rush Sandlin reached on a one-out error, then Chayce Sandlin drew a walk. One out later, Foust reached on an infield single to load the bases. Hale quickly unloaded the bases as his bases-clearing single made it a 9-5 game.
Falkville would add to their lead in the seventh as they scored on an Eagle throwing error. Vinemont couldn’t get a rally started in their final at-bats as they ended up falling to the Blue Devils 10-5.
Hale finished with a hit and three RBIs for Vinemont (7-7). Thomason added a hit and two RBIs. Foust and McRae each ended up with a hit.
