MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Clusters of showers and thunderstorms will move into areas north of I-20 by early this evening and spread across the northern half of the state through early Sunday morning. These storms are not forecast to become severe.
Clusters of showers and thunderstorms, possibly forming into several bowing segments will then redevelop across the state during the afternoon, lasting until early Monday morning.
The highest instability and severe weather chances Sunday afternoon and evening will be south of I-20, where the SPC has a Slight Risk in place.
Damaging straight-line winds and large hail are the main threats. However, a couple of supercells could form early to mid-afternoon, with a couple of tornadoes possible. Overall, the tornado threat is low. 0.5-2 inches of total rainfall is expected with no major flooding issues.
Dry and cool conditions will occur from sunrise Monday through at least Thursday. Many locations north of I-20 will be in the lower 30s Tuesday morning and upper 20s to lower 30s north of Hwy 80/ I-85 Wednesday morning. Rain and thunderstorms are possible next Friday.
