JoAnn Townsend Fortenberry, 71, of Double Springs, passed away Feb. 28, 2023 at Walker Baptist Medical Center.
JoAnn was born March 28, 1951 in Haleyville, Alabama to Bobby Joe Townsend and Jewel Orr Townsend. Family was the most important thing in her life. She loved fiercely, and never let family and friends doubt how much she loved them. She was always finding a reason to give to someone, and if you stopped to talk to her for just a moment, she would tell you about all the great things her grandchildren were doing.
A visitation will be held on Friday, March 3, 2023 from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home in Double Springs, where the service will be held at 3:00pm. Brother Jake Russell will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt. Ebron Cemetery in Double Springs.
JoAnn is survived by her husband of 49 years, Johnny Fortenberry; daughters, Heather (Josh) Tucker, and Jonna (Graham) Winkworth; grandchildren, John Hunter Tucker, Maggie Tucker, Caden Winkworth, and Lucas Winkworth; brother, Dennis (Pat) Townsend; and sister, Leigh Ellen Townsend
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bobby Joe and Jewel Townsend; granddaughter, Darbi Winkworth; sister, Brenda Beard; and brother, Jimmy Townsend.
