Obituary: Linda McKelvy Hawkins

Linda McKelvy Hawkins, 83, of Joppa, Alabama, passed away on Feb. 23, 2023. Linda was born to Kirby Wynn and Avis Bonner McKelvy on Dec. 4, 1939.

Linda was raised on a farm, and she was always young at heart. She enjoyed life and had an amazing sense of humor. Linda was a Rod Stewart fan she enjoyed seeing him in concert as well as listening to his music. Ms. Hawkins was a member of Fairview First United Methodist Church, and she was a volunteer at The Crossing Ministry until her health made her unable to continue doing so. Linda was an active member of her church family and could be found supporting various church fundraisers with her donation of beautiful handmade quilts. She also baked the communion bread for her church for many years. A true example of Christ and His love, Linda’s servant heart brought many blessings to those in her life. She was a faithful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend and neighbor and she will be missed greatly.

Ms. Hawkins is preceded in death by her parents, Kirby and Avis McKelvy; beloved husband, Edward Hawkins; and brothers, Larry McKelvy and Michael McKelvy.

Those surviving Linda are her daughters, Laura Hallmark (David), Sandy Haase (Bruce); grandchildren, Brian Hagan (Samantha), Scott Hagan (Casey), Erin Hallmark, Heidi Holland (Travis), Bruce Haase III; five great-grandchildren with another to arrive soon; and brothers, Ricky McKelvy (Pam), Tony McKelvy.

A time of visitation will be held at Holly Pond Funeral Home on Sunday evening, Feb. 26, 2023, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Monday, Feb. 27, 2023, at Fairview First United Methodist Church with Richard Saylor officiating. Burial will follow services in Simcoe United Methodist Cemetery.
